VE #4 โ€” Who Vibe Engineering Is For?!

Not just engineers. Not just tech leads. Not just people who write code. Everyone. Here's why that's not a marketing line โ€” it's the entire point.

VE #4 โ€” Who Vibe Engineering Is For?!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Let me tell you about Naveen.

Naveen is a RevOps professional. His world is processes, workflows, pipelines, and data. Not code. Not architecture. Not deployments.

Or so he thought.

I used to have regular conversations with Naveen โ€” sometimes confusing him deliberately, sometimes challenging him, sometimes just sharing raw unfiltered thoughts about where technology was going and what it meant for people like him.

He would listen. He would push back. He would get confused. He would come back with more questions.

And then one day โ€” something clicked.

Naveen built a mobile app. On his own. ๐Ÿคฏ

Not because he learned to code overnight. Not because he hired a developer. Not because he had a technical background that nobody knew about.

Because he had the right mindset โ€” and the right tools โ€” and someone who kept pushing him to believe that building was not reserved for people with engineering degrees.

That moment is my definition of what Vibe Engineering is for.

Not a demographic. Not a job title. Not a years-of-experience threshold.

A belief. That anyone who wants to build โ€” can.

๐Ÿค” Who does the world think Vibe Engineering is for?

If you ask most people โ€” they will tell you Vibe Engineering, like most engineering disciplines, is for software engineers.

Maybe also for technical leads. Senior developers. CTOs. People who already understand systems and code and infrastructure.

People who have earned the right to build.

๐Ÿ˜ณ And that assumption โ€” that building requires a specific background โ€” is exactly the limitation Vibe Engineering was designed to destroy.

๐ŸŒ The Andrew Ng moment

One of the most influential ideas that shaped my thinking about Vibe Engineering came from Andrew Ng.

His course โ€” Generative AI for Everyone โ€” does exactly what the title says. It doesn't assume you are an engineer. It doesn't require a computer science degree. It doesn't gatekeep.

It starts from a simple, radical premise.

AI is for everyone. Building is for everyone. The tools exist. The capability exists. The only thing missing is the mindset and the confidence to start.

That course rewired something in me. Not just about AI โ€” but about who gets to build things.

Because for most of the history of technology, building has been gated.

You needed to know how to code. You needed to understand infrastructure. You needed years of experience in a specific domain before you were trusted to create something real.

AI changes that equation fundamentally.

And Vibe Engineering is the discipline that helps anyone โ€” regardless of background โ€” navigate that new equation with clarity and intention.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ The roles that were never supposed to feel like builders

Let me be specific about who I mean when I say "everyone."

Because in my 27 years in technology โ€” I have worked alongside some of the most capable, intelligent, creative people I have ever met. People who solved complex problems, designed elegant solutions, and delivered outcomes that genuinely mattered.

People who never called themselves builders.

QA engineers โ€” who understand systems more deeply than most developers because they know exactly where and how things break. Who think in edge cases, failure modes, and user journeys. Who have been building mental models of software for years โ€” but rarely get to build the software itself.

DevOps engineers โ€” who architect the infrastructure that makes everything else possible. Who design the pipelines, the monitoring, the deployment strategies. Who are builders of systems โ€” but often don't see themselves that way because they aren't writing application code.

RevOps professionals โ€” like Naveen โ€” who design the operational workflows that run entire businesses. Who understand process, data, and outcomes better than almost anyone. Who have ideas for tools that would transform how their teams work โ€” but assumed those ideas required a developer to execute.

Product managers โ€” who carry the vision of what should be built in their heads every single day โ€” but depend entirely on engineers to translate that vision into reality.

Technical writers โ€” who understand products more deeply than most people who built them โ€” but have no way to build the tools they wish existed.

Every single one of these people has the most important ingredient for building something great.

They know what problem needs solving.

And in the AI era โ€” knowing the problem clearly is 80% of the work.

Vibe Engineering gives them the other 20%.

๐ŸŽฏ The mindset shift that changes everything

Here is what I have observed โ€” consistently, across every person who has made the transition from "I can't build" to "I built that."

It was never about skill. It was never about background. It was never about technical knowledge.

It was always about one thing.

Permission.

The permission to try. The permission to fail. The permission to iterate. The permission to call themselves a builder โ€” before they had built anything.

Most people are waiting for someone to give them that permission.

Vibe Engineering gives it to them โ€” by design.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Fury didn't recruit the Avengers because they were perfect. He recruited them because he saw what they could become โ€” and he built the system that made it possible. He gave them the infrastructure, the mission, and the belief that they were capable of more than they knew.

That is what Vibe Engineering does for the people who embrace it.

๐Ÿ’ก What "everyone builds" actually means

When I say "Humans architect. AI orchestrates. Everyone builds." โ€” the word "everyone" is not a marketing line.

It is a commitment.

It means the QA engineer who wants to automate something nobody else has time to build. It means the DevOps engineer who has an idea for a better monitoring tool. It means the RevOps professional who wants to build the workflow their team desperately needs. It means the product manager who wants to prototype their own vision without waiting six months for engineering capacity. It means the non-technical founder who has a product idea and the clarity to describe it. It means the person who has never written a single line of code โ€” but has a problem they care about solving.

All of them. Every single one.

Vibe Engineering is not a club with membership requirements.

It is an open door.

And the only thing you need to walk through it is the willingness to start.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ A word about how this series is written

You just read about breaking down the walls that decide who gets to build.

This series itself broke down a wall โ€” by openly crediting the AI that helps write it.

This series is openly co-authored with AI โ€” and I want to be specific about how, because the how matters.

Think about the greatest biographies you've ever read. The ones that felt alive, vivid, deeply human. In most cases, those books weren't written entirely by the person whose name is on the cover.

The thoughts, the experiences, the voice โ€” entirely theirs. The craft of translating that voice onto the page โ€” shaped by a writer who worked closely alongside them.

That writer rarely got credited. ๐Ÿค

I'm doing this differently.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ ChatGPT Voice captures my raw thinking as I speak โ€” unfiltered, unscripted, exactly as it comes out of my head in the moment.

โœ๏ธ Claude AI then takes that transcript and acts as writer and editor โ€” structuring the ideas, sharpening the language, and making sure what you read actually reflects what I meant to say.

๐ŸŽจ Google Gemini Nano Banana Pro crafts the cover image for each post โ€” bringing the visual identity of Vibe Engineering to life.

The thinking is mine. The voice is mine. The 27 years of experience are mine.

The craft of putting it on the page โ€” and the image on the cover โ€” is shaped by AI. And every AI that contributes gets credited.

That itself is Vibe Engineering in action.

โœ… Building was never reserved for people with the right degree. It was only ever reserved for people with the right belief.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What's the one thing you've always wanted to build โ€” but told yourself you couldn't?

Next โ€” VE #5.

The HumAI era. What it actually means for humans and AI to work together. The Toyota Way. And why the loop between human and machine is the most powerful thing in engineering right now.

See you Wednesday, April 15th at 12:05 PM IST. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
